I think that there are two major themes in this book so far. First, friendship is defiantly one of the themes in this book. Tree-ear shows friendship in many different ways. One example is when he gives Crane-man the coat that was to big to fit him so Crane-man could keep warm. Another way Tree-ear shows friendship is he shares everything he has with Crane-man like his midday meal. He is also Crane-man’s best companion. The second theme in this book is determination. Tree-ear shows determination when he asks if he can continue to work for Min so he might have a chance of making his own piece of pottery. He still does this even though Min is mean and ungrateful of him, and this shows determination as well as courage. In my opinion these are the two main themes of A Single Shard, so far.
